You entered the lift, finding a girl standing by the window, hands pressed against the glass, hair white as snow, height more petite than you. You figured she was just admiring the scenery; the city lights were stunningly beautiful at night. However, as she turned her head slowly to look at you, you noticed tears welling up in those ruby red eyes of hers. So beautiful; so innocent. What could she possibly be crying about? The light of the Ferris wheel illuminated the dark; how could someone cry at such a sight?
However, to that girl, the Ferris wheel meant more than just a simple landmark. It was a fragile memory that could shatter at any given time. Like plastic, memories made could be so easily broken.
Isla is a giftia who works to collect others of her kind who are quickly reaching the end of his or her lifespan. Separating bonds, mending broken hearts – it is all part of her job. Through her missions, she reaches out to people to heal emotional wounds, showing kindness and compassion to her clients, even if it was not her task to do so. She is naive and easily flustered, but her smile has the ability to bring happiness to others around her. However, despite helping others, the emptiness in her own heart could not be easily patched.
Isla knows that everything has to come to an inevitable end. When time runs out, all happy memories made would disappear forever, as if they never existed. If so, then what was the point of forging memories? Would it not be more painful to lose everything than to leave this world with nothing? She closes herself up, in fear of becoming hurt. She would rather be empty, lonely, and live without meaning than to lose all that is dear to her.
You feel your heart clench. This is not the right way of thinking! Even if death brings a loss to memories, someone out there must treasure you enough for those happy times to last. You reach out, grab her hand, and tell her that it was okay to make memories while she can. Man cannot go back to the past, but one could choose to make the most of what little time one has.
Isla smiles at you, giving your hand a gentle squeeze.
"Will you make memories with me until the end?”
