To be born into the Hiiragi family is to born into a life of power and authority. To an outsider, this means living a life of relative ease in a world turned hell. To Shinoa, it meant a childhood without love. It meant getting dragged into a power struggle. It meant being used to further someone else's goals, losing her sister, and being abandoned by that very family.
Shinoa hated him, that boy who rambled on and on about the importance of "family." He understood nothing. Family was meaningless. And yet, his purity - the strength of his belief - was overpowering. Spend any more time around him, and she might have started believing, too: maybe family wasn't so bad. Maybe she could forgive the Hiiragis, and maybe they will accept her.
These unnecessary thoughts flooded into her head, so she countered in the only way she knew how: a defense mechanism she developed as a child. She teased the boy. She played pranks. She joked around. Anything that would break his spirit. Anything that would give her a moment’s relief. They all failed. So, she gave in.
She wanted to believe.
When Shinoa became the leader of her squad in the Moon Demon Company, the members gave her something to fight for. They taught her the value of friendship. Shinoa now had something to be grateful to the Hiiragis for: the ability to fight, the ability to protect her new-found family.
Shinoa was born on Christmas day as a cursed child, motherless and unloved. Fifteen years later, she received her miracle.
