Is it possible for a second-year high school student to develop his own AI system? In the case of Akasaka Ryūnosuke, it certainly is. Trusted by several companies to develop their programming, Ryūnosuke is a teenage prodigy, and machines are his best allies.

Ryūnosuke's social life, however, is virtually non-existent. He shuts himself in his room facing two computer screens almost every day, and whoever wants to communicate with him using whatever platform is answered by "Maid-chan," Ryūnosuke's artificial intelligence program. Even his dormmates find it a hassle to talk to him. He just seems… incompatible with the rest of the world.

What is friendship and love? For him, those were just bugs in the human neural circuit. He believed them to be things he does not need. After all, part of his job as a programmer is to wipe out any such bugs. Ryūnosuke is satisfied with a world of binary values… until the day a newcomer breaks into his world to start messing things up. Ryūnosuke might yet end up having to rethink the definition of those two words that seem to contradict his universe.

Humans can be difficult to comprehend – they harbor emotions that other animals do not. Akasaka Ryūnosuke's biggest coding challenge may be to program his brain to comprehend those bugs in us that might not be bugs at all.
